Nikolaus Geyrhalter (* 1972 in Vienna ) is a director , producer and cameraman . The autodidact founded Nikolaus Geyrhalter Filmproduktion at the age of 22 in the course of his first film production Angeschwemmt in 1994 , which he converted into a GmbH in 2003 with three partners .

Work and style

Geyrhalter, who always directs the camera himself in his films, is known for his very personal cinematic signature. He lets people and spaces work without comment and gives the audience room for interpretation. "Almost every kind of additional information is irrelevant or worse for Geyrhalter - and this in an era in which documentaries often seem as didactic as PowerPoint presentations," writes Rob Nelson of the Village Voice in New York. Geyrhalter's most famous works include Pripyat , Elsewhere , Our Daily Bread and Abendland .

Geyrhalter was also visiting professor in the field of photography and film at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna in the winter semester 2012/2013.

“Basically, I make films that I would like to see myself. I am fascinated by zones where you normally cannot see "

- Nikolaus Geyrhalter in an interview on Our daily bread

“Wolfgang Widerhofer and I have been working together for ages. With one exception, where the timing was the same, he edited all of my films and therefore knows my way of shooting. Just as I know his way of cutting. "
