Wolfgang Ritzberger (born February 17, 1961 in Vienna ) is an Austrian film director and film producer .

Life

Ritzberger grew up in Vienna, studied economics at the University of Vienna and became a journalist at ORF , where he was most recently the chief editor at Bild II.

In the 1990s he was press spokesman for the ÖVP federal party under General Secretaries Othmar Karas and Maria Rauch-Kallat and as such led the successful election campaign for Ursula Stenzel in the 1996 European elections in Austria . He then began a career in the arts, for example as a cabaret artist. In 2000 he founded the Ritzlfilm company. He was a member of the Austrian Tonmeistervereinigung and is editor-in-chief of "MediaBiz", the largest Austrian trade magazine for the audio and film industry. In 2006 he directed the performance of Midsummer Night's Dream at the Retz Theater Summer , of which he later became director.

As a film producer, Ritzberger is best known for his success with the film The Best of All Worlds , which won several awards, including the Romy and the Austrian Film Prize 2018.

Ritzberger was a successful athlete in the disciplines of saber fencing and epee fencing. In 1992 he won the Vienna Saber Cup, and in 1993 he represented Austria at the World Fencing Championships in Essen .

Since 1994 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KaV Marco-Danubia Vienna in the ÖCV .
