Dieter Pochlatko (born June 6, 1943 in Graz , Austria ) is an Austrian film producer , cameraman and entrepreneur .

He has been a partner since 1969 and since 1978 managing director of the Austrian film production company Epo-Film , which his father Erich Pochlatko founded in 1954.

Leykam Medien AG held 51% of EPO-Film for five years, while Pochlatko retained 49% of the stake. In 2012 he bought this stake back for € 1.5 million.

Dieter Pochlatko is the son of Irmgard and Erich Pochlatko, the founder of the production company "EPO-Film". Part of his family is also active in the film industry, such as B. his older brother Peter Pochlatko, known as a film producer. Other ancestors are Walter Pochlatko (sculptor), Werner Pochlatko (actor) and Herbert Pochlatko (author). Pochlatko is married and has three sons.

Dieter Pochlatko graduated from Graz in 1964. Then he started studying German and Romance languages ​​at the University of Graz . In 1966 he was national champion in motorcycle enduro sport. A year later he joined the production company EPO-Film as a cameraman. After the death of his father, Pochlatko had to break off his studies in order to take over his role as managing director in the family business. He inherited the family business in Graz in 1969, and a year later he was granted the film production license .

In the course of time, Pochlatko experienced a great development in his professional area. From 1975 to 2003 he was the head of the Audiovision and Film Industry Section in the Styrian Chamber of Commerce .

In 1977 he also took over the Rechbauerkino cultural center in Graz, which at that time was developing into one of the most important cultural institutions in Austria. Pochlatko was a member of the jury for the Styrian Film Prize from 1977–2001 .

From 1978 to 1982 Pochlatko was managing director of the Audiovisual Center (AVZ) of the federal state of Styria. From 1984 to 2004 he also took over the post of chairman of the professional group for documentary films in the professional association of the audiovisual and film industry in the Styrian Chamber of Commerce.

From 1978 to 1988, Pochlatko was also head of the film department at the Technical College in Graz. He is known for his teaching activities in media courses at the University of Graz and at the University for Continuing Education in Krems . He has also given guest lectures at La Fémis in Paris .

From 1987 to 2003 he was a member of the jury for the Austrian State Prize in relation to advertising and business films , and from 1990 to 2002 he was also a member of the jury of the International Mountain Film Festival in Graz.

In 1990 Pochlatko expanded the business that had been set up in Vienna in 1978 in addition to his business in Graz to become the company's main office. Today the company is majority owned by his son Jakob Pochlatko .
