Das Wunder von Wörgl (working title Der Geldmacher ) is an Austrian feature film from 2018 by Urs Egger with Karl Markovics in the role of the mayor of Wörgl , Michael Unterguggenberger , and Verena Altenberger as his wife Rosa. The premiere took place on November 15, 2018 in the Cineplexx Wörgl.

action

The film tells a true story based in the Tyrol in 1932 about the “ miracle of Wörgl ”. While National Socialism is rampant, Wörgl is facing bankruptcy. Mayor Michael Unterguggenberger succeeds in bringing the community to prosperity through the introduction of Schwundgeld and reducing unemployment to zero.

The “miracle of Wörgl” is drawing circles. The press reports that municipalities in the area are interested in it, some are introducing the Schwundgeld themselves, the mayor of Bad Tölz in Upper Bavaria is looking for Unterguggenberger to inquire about the feasibility in his town, and even the French Prime Minister Daladier expresses his interest. The government and the Austrian National Bank, on the other hand, consider the mayor to be a threat with his Schwundgeld; they fear that it could bring down the whole system. Unterguggenberger is brought to justice and the Schwundgeld is prohibited.
