August Zirner
August Zirner (born January 7, 1956 in Urbana , Illinois , USA ) is an American - Austrian actor who has appeared in over 120 film productions.
life and work
Zirner was born in the United States as the only child of Austrian emigrants of Jewish origin (the costume designer Laura Beata Wärndorfer and the opera director Ludwig Zirner ) and is still a US citizen .
Zirners grandfather Ludwig Rusk led under the name Ludwig rusks and brother during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy one of the most significant Viennese clothing stores. Zirner's grandmother, Zirner's daughter Ella (1878–1970), inherited most of the company in 1930. The family was in 1938 by the Nazi - regime expropriated.
When August Zirner was 14 years old, his father died. August Zirner lived in Europe since 1973, in Vienna he attended the Max Reinhardt Seminar . After the debut at the Volkstheater Wien , engagements in Hanover, Wiesbaden and at the Münchner Kammerspiele followed .
He has appeared in numerous cinema and television films, for example in Café Europa (1990) by Franz Xaver Bogner , Homo Faber (1990) by Volker Schlöndorff , Stadt talk (1995) by Rainer Kaufmann , Winterkind (1997) by Margarethe von Trotta , Die Apothekerin (1997) by Rainer Kaufmann and Die Fälscher by Stefan Ruzowitzky , who won an Oscar for best foreign language film in 2008 . In 2006 he received the Grimme Prize for the film Wut .
Zirner appeared in 2009 as a flautist with the money box trio in the stage program Diagnose: Jazz . From May 2011 Zirner can be seen in Blinde Date based on the film by Theo van Gogh at the Schauspielhaus Graz in a production by Bernadette Sonnenbichler . Since 2011 he has been on the stage of the Residenztheater Munich , since 2015 he has played Nathan the Wise in the Munich Volkstheater in a production by Christian Stückl .
August Zirner is married to the actress Katalin Zsigmondy and lives in Prien am Chiemsee . Two of the couple's four children are also actors, Johannes Zirner and Leo Zirner , daughter Ana Zirner is a director.
