action

Richard Leisewitz has a happy relationship with his wife Charlotte. This changes when Charlotte's best friend Ulla creates a profile for Charlotte on a dating platform for fun.

Richard, who has just flown in from Lesbos , pours his heart out to the taxi driver who is supposed to take him to court. Today is his divorce date. Everything started when their son Markus moved out: Richard meets an old friend again, Stefan, in the parking lot of a supermarket. He ignores the fact that he obviously doesn't want to see him at all and practically forces him to meet on other days. While his wife Charlotte runs a fashion business with her friend Ulla, Richard has a lot of free time as he works as a freelance advertising photographer. When the couple have lunch at their favorite restaurant, Charlotte tells Richard that she once entered her details on a dating portal for fun, and she only had 14 percent agreement with him. But there is a man with whom they agree 98 percent. Richard says she has to meet him once, that would be funny. At one of the outside tables there is also a woman they both know well, Christine, with whom the photographer had a relationship eleven years ago. However, Richard only now learns that his wife knew about it. Some time later, Christine, whom he visits, tells him that Charlotte was with her at the time and had fought for him. She was very well prepared, says the happily married lawyer.

First of all, Richard does not let himself be deterred and, despite his defensive behavior, seeks out his former friend Stefan. He is a restorer and is currently busy with an order to restore some old pictures. Richard helps him with this. At the same time, Charlotte has gotten carried away with meeting the man with whom she has such a high level of agreement. What he has written impressed her and he loves poetry, especially Rilke's poetry , including her favorite poet. Thomas is a PE teacher and they both get along immediately. When he asks Charlotte at the end of the meeting when they would see each other again, he is not at all surprised by her admission that she is actually not looking for anyone and that she is married. He thought so, he just says. In the time that followed, Charlotte did a lot together with Thomas, for example they went to an ice hockey game or to the opera, where the Magic Flute was performed . Richard follows them both when they go to a pub after the opera to have a glass of red wine. In front of all the guests he behaves strangely, to say the least. So he first trills the aria This portrait is enchantingly beautiful , only to try his hand at the aria of the Queen of the Night. Hell's vengeance is boiling in my heart . Angry, Charlotte leaves the restaurant while the men have a brief heated argument.

The picture “ Portrait of a Lady ” by Gustav Klimt was shown in the film

When Richard visits Stefan again, he has a surprise for him. One of the rather worthless decorative pictures he is supposed to restore has been painted over. Richard had already suspected something like that, but was brushed off by Stefan. Together, the men are now going to get to the bottom of the matter. After they have exposed more and more of the old layers of varnish , Stefan says that it is the Viennese school , everything indicates that the picture is a portrait of a woman by Gustav Klimt. The men researched on the Internet that the picture stolen during National Socialism , which shows a portrait of a woman, is considered lost.

Subsequently, Richard and Charlotte are mutually blamed, culminating in Richard complaining that Charlotte did not let him decide which woman to stay with at the time. Charlotte, on the other hand, does not understand his secrecy with Stefan and withdraws in a huff. Richard travels with Stefan to return their picture to the rightful owners. They show themselves to be more than generous for the joy of having the lost work back. After Richard's return, there are serious misunderstandings between him and his wife, culminating in the fact that Charlotte wants to file for divorce. With his share that Stefan and he received for the picture, Richard can expand the former goat barn on Lesbos and has since lived there alone, where he actually wanted to grow old with Charlotte.

Richard will not be represented in court; he agrees with everything, he assures the judge. The trial gets off to a strange start, with the couple accusing each other of their snoring habits, only to get up and walk out of the courtroom hand in hand. That is love, says the judge, with some it stays. And so Richard is no longer alone on his dream island. Markus has also decided to get married on Lesbos on the day his parents celebrate their silver wedding anniversary.

background

Axel Milberg said in an interview with ZDF: “Online dating may be successful. Usually justified with: 'No time!' Hmm, but searching, not searching, being attacked, flirting, discovering, the errors and butterflies in the stomach should not be missed and it should ideally last a long time. If you don't have time to get to know each other by chance, you won't have any afterwards. "And Ulrike Kriener added:" Differences are also stimulating and interesting. You broaden your own view of the world and when it's just about things like 'He likes the mountains, I prefer the sea'. My God, then you just travel separately, or alternately there or there, or only spend the holidays together in stinking big cities. There is always a solution."

The Rheinische Post supplemented its criticism with the statement: "Leading actress Ulrike Kriener and screenwriter Georg Weber are not only a well-rehearsed team behind the camera: they have been married for more than two decades."

criticism

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm pointed with the thumbs up, gave two points for humor, one of three possible points for demand and excitement, and came to the conclusion: "Mild fun that perks up husbands". It was further stated: "The 'Best Ager' comedy, which is embedded in a superfluous framework, is played in a witty manner and has serious undertones."

Heike Hupertz praised the epd in her rating : “Joke and satire conceal deeper meaning in some places. The film is, its big plus, funny in the broader sense of the word. Shrewd and intelligent, smashing common places, very entertaining and deliberately easy even in the most serious moments. ”The critic continued:“ Lively dialogues, extremely playful actors who have mastered all the nuances of the story in the most beautiful way, witty dramaturgy, as well as modern imagery [... ] make this ZDF comedy stand out among many seemingly similar. "

Thomas Gehringer gave the film five out of six possible stars on the tittelbach.tv site and came to the conclusion that 'My wife, her dream man and I' are convincing “with a clever, twist-rich script full of puns, with Axel Milberg and Ulrike Kriener in top form as well as a seriousness that distinguishes good comedies from others ”. The taxi driver fell asleep with a bottle of ouzo, "but there is absolutely no danger for the audience with this comedy". The film is the work of a well-rehearsed team: it is directed by the Swiss Walter Weber, Ulrike Kriener stood in front of the camera and Kriener's husband Georg Weber wrote the script. Walter Weber has also already worked with Axel Milberg. Furthermore, Gehringer said: "With dialog wit and excellent actors, author Georg Weber is driving the comedy about a couple in the set relationship age." The critic also said "must have seen" one must "his appearance as a jealous husband who after a mutual Charlotte and Thomas go to the opera in the restaurant Platz [e] and try “Magic Flute” arias yourself. "The way Milberg also celebrates his dialogue texts with emphasis and pauses" is "simply first class". In addition, he has "with Ulrike Kriener a congenial partner and a joint finale furioso before the divorce judge". Likewise, "how the much scolded Greece, namely the island of Lesbos, is becoming a dream destination and happy-end scene" is also sympathetic. "Axel Milberg in particular is sprayed with joy in playing."

For the Internet portal evangelisch.de took Tilmann P. Gangloff on the film. The critic stated that director Walter Weber, Milberg "gave the necessary space" to "develop the whole personality of Richard". In the framework of the story he provided the husband, “who was too sure of his cause, with a trace of comical despair. In the long flashback, which is repeatedly interrupted by short moments with the taxi driver, he puts the figure on in a much more differentiated and, above all, multifaceted way: appearances of provocative self-glory alternate with slapstick scenes and great dialogue duels, in which Milberg has an equal partner with his colleague Zirner ”. Casting a rather “small role with Ulrike C. Tscharre” is also “a wonderful gift from this film, which already has many nice ideas to offer”. “Their biographical characteristics also contribute to the depth of the figures”: Richard studied art, but is now a photographer for advertising brochures. Stefan, once his fellow student, has remained loyal to the profession as a restorer. The fact that the two discovered a lost Klimt painting that had been painted over is another nice idea. "

In the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung , Susanne Haverkamp said: “The film is humorous without wanting to be funny, slightly exaggerated, without becoming stupid and even has some surprising turns. In this respect it is good entertainment. "

Katharina Hamacher stated for RP Online : "Director Walter Weber staged the humorous 'Best Ager' comedy based on the script by Georg Weber with witty dialogues and a playful cast." [...] "Axel Milberg in particular is convincing between overconfidence and insecurity battered husband, whose ideal world is gradually shaking. "

Sidney Schering commented on the page Quotenmeter.de to the film and found fault: "My wife, her dream man and I 'is one of those typical failures, it probably needs to ultimately to approach a sound approach. Because this love-tragic comedy about a married couple that [sic] questions their future together in their prime is actually completely hackneyed standard television footage. Plus with a semi-silk current hanger to look more modern. So to speak, narrative cold coffee - with a dash of caramel soy cream. Or whatever is currently modern. ”Schering, who partly incorrectly reproduced the content of the film, but at least attested to the main actors being“ actually talented ”, came to the conclusion:“ In terms of content mass-produced, dull to exhausting to implement. It's a shame about the talented people in front of and behind the camera. "

Focus Online couldn't get much out of the film either and said that the event was "so magical that it is quite dreadful even during Advent". However, "the actors are fully involved, and they alone are worth switching on". It was also said that with his book, the author Georg Weber had found a solution to the differences between spouses that was "terrifyingly predictable". In addition, Walter Weber tells the story "in confusing retrospectives and could safely have saved the whole framework in Greece: There are few serious undertones in the fight for (marital) happiness", "but they" went "so unfortunately completely under".

The online portal Filmdienst was of the opinion: Laconic and thoughtful narrated (television) comedy that holds up a mirror to people with a deep understanding of roles. - From 14.
