Ana Zirner

Ana Zirner (* 1983 in Starnberg ) is a German author. Until 2017 she worked mainly as a film and theater director as well as a cultural manager.

Live and act

Ana Zirner is the daughter of the actors August Zirner and Katlin Zsigmondy , her brothers are the actors Johannes Zirner and Leo Zirner , her sister Aurelia Zirner is a geoscientist. Ana Zirner grew up in Aschau im Chiemgau in the Bavarian foothills of the Alps .

She first studied Islamic and political science at the Free University of Berlin . She also studied film directing in Berlin until 2008 . She then completed a degree in theater directing at the Folkwang University of the Arts until 2012 , which she completed with a master's degree. During her studies she worked as a director and also lived in New York and Madrid . Her diploma production “Spring and Hope”, a documentary work for which Zirner interviewed opposition members in Iran, won the Folkwang Prize for the Performing Arts in the category of directing in 2012 and was subsequently performed at numerous international festivals.

In 2012 she was co-founder of the independent performance collective satellit produktion in Munich , which realized political-documentary dance-theater productions until 2017 that also toured internationally. In 2015 satellit produktion received the Kurt-Meisel-Förderpreis for their theater project to work voluntarily . As a theater maker, she received a grant from the International Forum at the Berlin Theatertreffen in 2016 .

Zirner also worked as a cultural manager. In 2010 she was appointed to the jury of the “Theatertreffen NRW”. In 2011 she was the curator of the Encounter program for the international ITs Festival in Amsterdam. In 2012 she was part of the management team of the Emergency Entrance Festival at the Schauspielhaus Graz and in 2013 headed the Transport Festival at the Pathos Theater in Munich. In 2013 she was also part of the management team there. From 2014 to 2015 she was the personal assistant to the artistic director Johan Simons at the Münchner Kammerspiele . In December 2017 she completed the part-time course “Curating in the scenic arts” at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

In addition to her book Alpensolo , published in 2018, and her book Rivertime , published in 2020, she also writes for magazines and also gives lectures and readings.

Since 2017, when she reported on her crossing of the Alps from east to west, she has been going on regular alpine tours.

Commitment to climate protection

Zirner is committed to climate protection. She is a member of the Riders Alliance of Protect Our Winters (POW) Germany, which campaigns, for example, at events in schools to educate people about climate change.

Cultural engagement

Zirner was involved in international networks of the performing arts, e.g. B. in the European Network for Young Cinema. Since 2011 she has been a member of the international network for contemporary performing arts (IETM) and has worked for EU initiatives such as “Culture Action Europe”. She worked with European cultural managers on the long-term project DUTY FREE (ex) changing Europe . In 2014 she was invited to Kiev as a spokesperson for the Culture and Education Academy of the Goethe Institute . In 2015 she was invited to the “Atelier for Young Cultural Managers” of the EFA Academy in Beirut as a cultural manager .
