François Lelord (born June 22, 1953 in Paris ) is a French psychiatrist and writer .

Life

Lelord studied medicine and psychology and, after completing his PhD in 1985, was a year postdoctoral fellow with Robert Liberman at the University of California in Los Angeles . He then worked for two years as a senior physician at the Hôpital Necker at the University of Paris V , before setting up his own practice in Paris in 1989. Lelord gave up this practice in 1996 to advise HR departments of companies and institutions in the areas of job satisfaction and stress until 2004 . Since 2004 he has been practicing as a psychiatrist in hospitals in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City . Lelord is married to a Vietnamese woman and has lived in Paris and Bangkok for six months since 2008 .

With Christophe André he wrote several specialist books on psychological topics. So far he has published eight novels about the psychiatrist and intellectual Hector (see works). They were hugely popular in France, were on the bestseller lists for weeks and appeared in fourteen countries. So far, more than 1.5 million copies of his Hector novels have been sold in Germany, more than in France. In 2014, the film Hector's Journey or the Search for Happiness was made based on the first book .
