action

Katharina Wallner is the owner of the small Schatztruhe shop , where she has been selling actors' relics for 25 years. According to the wishes of her landlord, Heinz Ortner, she should give up the shop because Ortner wants to rent it out more lucratively. Because Ortner's father granted Katharina a lifelong tenancy and Katharina does not want to sell, the dispute between the tenant and landlord comes to a head. Ortner has caretaker Ernst Schlenzer glue the shop locks and glue false Wallner obituaries to Katharina's shop window. But not only Katharina has to suffer from Ortner. His girlfriend Mirjana, who lives under Katharina, is regularly beaten by Ortner, while Mirjana's daughter Lena is molested by him and regularly takes refuge in the attic of the house.

One day a customer appears in Katharina's shop and sells her an old photo. It shows Katharina and her sister Hannah as extras on the set of the film Restless Girls . Katharina is carried away and buys the photo. She has not seen her sister for almost 40 years and is therefore surprised when she stands in front of her a short time later. She is relatively distant, but explains that she has returned because she will die shortly and therefore wanted to see her old homeland again. Both look at old photos and Katharina gives Hannah a brooch from the estate of her deceased mother. Your conversation is interrupted by the doorbell ringing. It is Lena who asks Katharina for help because Ortner beats Mirjana again. Katharina dials the police emergency number, but Hannah picks up the receiver and explains to the police officer that she was wrong. Shortly afterwards, Hannah leaves and hears the loud argument between Ortner and Mirjana in the stairwell.

The next morning, caretaker Ernst Schlenzer found Ortner dead in the stairwell. Apparently he fell down the stairwell. The investigations also show that it was previously knocked down with a blunt object. Franz Graumann is entrusted with the investigation, the somewhat younger Thomas Velocek is at his side. Franz was once considered a legend in police circles. However, since his wife took her own life two years ago, he has been a human wreck with a serious drinking problem. The investigators are initially concentrating on Mirjana, who may well have acted in self-defense. However, she says that in the middle of their argument, the doorbell rang, whereupon Ortner left the apartment and did not return.

Ernst Schlenzer went to see Katharina because he found her brooch next to Ortner's corpse - which Katharina had given her sister Hannah that evening. He wants money from her, otherwise he would report her to the police. Katharina replies that the brooch no longer belongs to her. She tries to meet Hannah at her hotel, but Hannah is not registered there. She'll call her on her cell phone later. They meet and Hannah admits to killing Ortner. The investigators meanwhile evaluate Katharina's emergency call from the evening of the crime and Franz realizes that two different women are obviously talking on the phone, even if their voices are very similar. He looks for Katharina in her shop and she admits that her sister Hannah took the receiver from her hand that evening. Franz is enthusiastic about Katharina's shop, especially since he has rediscovered his love for the old films since the death of his wife. In the following years he went to a cinema with Katharina several times, which still showed old Viennese films with Hans Moser and Co. Hannah is not at all happy about these meetings, as she believes that Franz Katharina just wants to hear out.

One day Ernst Schlenzer appears again at Katharina's home to extort money for the brooch. Hannah calls him shortly afterwards and offers 15,000 euros to return the brooch. She arranges to meet him in an empty house where she wants to kill him. Katharina follows Hannah and wants to dissuade her from her plan. Meanwhile, Franz learns from the specialists that in reality only one person could be heard on the emergency call - Katharina. Hannah's files, which Franz had brought, also indicate that she committed suicide 40 years ago abroad. Franz rushes to Katharina's house, where the terrified Ernst Schlenzer meets him. Both women tried to murder him in the empty house, he says, although Katharina warned him. Franz rushes into the empty house and calls out to Katharina what he has learned about her sister. Katharina realizes that she only imagined Hannah, imitated her voice and must also have committed Ortner's murder. She wants to kill herself, but Franz saves her. He prevents her from testifying on the way to the hospital and subsequently hushed up all indications that Katharina was the perpetrator. Instead, he portrays her sister as the perpetrator, but she is fleeting. Although Thomas has doubts about the work of his superior, he lets him go. Over time Katharina realizes that although she is the perpetrator, she will not be prosecuted. She continues to go to the cinema with Franz, even if she is not taking her medication for her mental illness - and therefore her imaginary sister stays close to her even when she goes to the cinema.

Production background

My sister was shot in Vienna and the surrounding area from February 2011. Several members of the Hörbiger family stood in front of the camera: In addition to the sisters Christiane and Maresa, who appeared together for the first time in a film, their nephew Cornelius Obonya, son of Christianes and Maresa's sister Elisabeth Orth , also appeared in the film. Christiane Hörbiger's son Sascha Bigler was the director, which is why the press wrote about a “family production” and a “big family reunion”.

The film premiered in Austria on ORF in October 2011 . On 21 February 2013, the thriller was the first time at The First German television. It was seen by 5.49 million viewers, which corresponded to a market share of around 16.7 percent. The film was released on DVD in April 2013.

Reviews

For the film service , my sister was a "puzzled (television) crime film", which is particularly appealing because of its cast. The Frankfurter Rundschau called the film an "atypical [n] ARD Degeto film [...] that changes the tempo and tone several times, begins cheerfully and leisurely, has an exciting middle section before it becomes dark and almost oppressive."
