Life

The daughter of Attila Hörbiger and Paula Wessely as well as the sister of Elisabeth Orth and Christiane Hörbiger should not, according to their parents' wishes, also become an actress. After graduating from high school , she attended the University of World Trade and worked for a newspaper as a journalist. Among other things, she wanted to start with the courier under Hugo Portisch , but he rather advised her to become an actor. So she decided otherwise and, with the consent of her parents, took acting lessons at the Max Reinhardt Seminar .

She received her first engagements in Regensburg and Bern. She played at the State Drama Theaters in Berlin and then in Hamburg. In autumn 1972 she became a member of the Burgtheater . There she stood on stage several times with her father. She was particularly successful in 1974 as Recha in Nathan der Weise and in 1976 as Gretchen in Faust . 1985/1986 she made guest appearances at the Schillertheater and the Schlossparktheater in Berlin. In 1991 she had a guest appearance at the local Renaissance theater .

Maresa Hörbiger was a rare guest in film and television. In 2003 she founded the Hörbiger cultural salon in the villa of her deceased parents . In 2005, she was supported by President Heinz Fischer to Kammerschauspielerin appointed.

In summer 2008 she performed at the Bad Leonfeldner Sommerfestspiele in the musical Cabaret alongside Karl M. Sibelius under the artistic direction of Thomas Kerbl. In 2011 she was seen for the first time together with Meine Sister at the side of her sister (Christiane Hörbiger) in a film.

On December 16, 1976 she married the actor Dieter Witting. The marriage ended in divorce seven years later. Her son Manuel Witting also chose the acting profession.

Maresa Hörbiger inherited from her parents Attila Hörbiger († 1987) and Paula Wessely († 2000; Maresa had looked after her mother until the end) their very spacious house in Grinzing , Vienna 19., Himmelstrasse 24, the so-called Hörbigerhaus, and lived there until now with her son. There she set up the “Theater in Heaven” and the Hörbiger cultural salon. At the end of 2014 she sold the house in agreement with her sisters and will leave it by summer 2015. Her son will move into his own apartment, Maresa has bought a small winegrower's house just around the corner in Cobenzlgasse .

In 2016 she was awarded the professional title of Professor .
