occupation

An Austrian crime television series that has been produced by MR Film on behalf of ORF since 2007 is quickly determined . It was first broadcast on April 21, 2009 on ORF 1 .

Production and broadcast

In 2007, the crime series was presented in the media for the first time as part of the program reform of the ORF. While two pilot episodes were produced in the summer of 2007 and the remaining 8 episodes of the first season a year later, the ORF never agreed on a broadcast date, so that the first broadcast did not take place until 2009.

In mid-2009, the series was presented at the MipTV television fair , which led to a great deal of interest from television stations from other countries. In the summer of 2009, the first season of Schnell determined under the title Žaibiški tyrimai ran in Lithuania . The Danish public television DR has meanwhile also bought Schnell determined and has broadcast all three previous seasons under the title Hurtig opklaring . The series was also sold to Slovenia, France, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Italy. The ARD broadcast the first two seasons of Schnell determined from November 2013 in the SWR program .

In early March 2009, filming for the second season took place in Vienna , which was broadcast in early 2010. Between spring and autumn 2010 there were shooting dates for the third season, which was broadcast from January 4, 2011. Between spring and autumn 2011 there were shooting dates for the fourth season, which was broadcast from January 10, 2012.

In December 2011 it was announced that instead of a full fifth season, two 90-minute television films would be produced. Finally, four films were produced between 2012 and 2017.

The first film was broadcast on ORF Eins on December 11, 2012 and is entitled Schuld . The second film, entitled Remember , was shot in Vienna from September 2012 to mid-October 2012 and released on DVD on November 29, 2013. Together with the third film Leben , shot in August 2013 , it was first broadcast on ORF eins in September 2014. The shooting of a fourth feature film had to be postponed to spring 2015 due to a car accident by Ursula Strauss. The fourth film, Loneliness , was first broadcast on March 6, 2017.

In May 2016, filming began for a fifth season. The ten episodes were broadcast from March 13, 2017.

Filming for the sixth season took place from July to December 2017.

action

Chief Inspector Angelika Schnell (née Zuhlehner) is the head of the homicide squad in Vienna. She is divorced and has two children, Kathrin and Jan. Schnell is very empathic , even if extremely self-centered. In daydreams she often sees murder victims in their actions in different places that have to do with the victim or the crime. In the course of the seasons, the daydreams expand to include personal feelings and sometimes Angelica projects herself into the place of the victim. The break between daydream and reality is often only noticeable at the end of the scene. She works directly with District Inspector Harald Franitschek. The ritual of introducing each other to the interviewees has developed between them.

Executive assistant Maja Landauer works in the office and researches the background information. VB / S ( contract employee with special status) Kemal Öztürk is the IT specialist and responsible for evaluating computers and cell phones. A private relationship develops between the two over the course of the series. After work, the team likes to meet at a Chinese snack stand across from Vienna's Urania , and not at a sausage stand , as is cliché for Vienna .

Forensic doctor is Dr. Stefan Schnell, Angelika's ex-husband. You have a friendly relationship. The children live primarily with their mother, but because of work they often have to come to terms with childcare. This is where Stefan's mother sometimes comes into play, with whom Angelika doesn't get along well.

In addition to the case of the respective episode, storylines across all seasons also develop. These are described below.

First season

During the first season, Angelika Schnell falls in love with the murder suspect Peter Feiler and trusts him. In the final she is kidnapped, held captive and tortured by him.

Second season

It turns out that Peter Feiler was involved in murders before, it just wasn't possible to determine whether he was really responsible. Since Angelika Schnell was freed by her colleagues, the former friend fled and has been wanted ever since. Since then Schnell has suffered from paranoia and mental health problems. Thus, the second season is also about the search for the serial killer Peter Feiler, who finally dies in the last episode of the season while being chased by the inspector.

Third season

The third season describes the investigation into the death of Peter Feiler by the special representative Colonel Martin Schuster. He thinks Schnell is suspicious of deliberately killing Feiler and holds regular internal interviews. Meanwhile, Angelika Schnell pursues further leads outside of work in the case of Feiler and meets the imprisoned Karl Esch, who offers her more and more information. When Karl Esch escapes from prison and is found murdered shortly afterwards, Angelika Schnell becomes the main suspect. At the end of the season Schnell was arrested and suspended from duty. Meanwhile, Franitschek leads the department as chief inspector. After her release from custody, Schnell conducts a private investigation into the Esch case and finds out that the prison officer, group inspector Maria Winter, is involved. After finding evidence of possible guilt by Schnell, she is arrested again but is able to escape. Eventually she unmasked the suspected prison guard as Esch's murderer. In a chase, investigator Schuster accidentally shoots Schnell, whereupon she is hospitalized.

Fourth season

The gunshot wound quickly survived and returned to work after the hospital stay. In her daydreams, however, she sees a black-haired girl instead of the murder victims. She confides in her ex-husband, who is temporarily living with her again, and uses psychiatric help. It turns out that the girl is apparently Lucy Haller, who has been missing for years, and that Schnell saw her in the hospital when she was only half conscious. In the season finale it turns out that Schnell is actually still in a deep sleep in the hospital and has only dreamed the events of the entire season. In doing so, she seems to have processed unconsciously perceived information - the case of Lucy Haller, for example, has now actually developed in the way she dreamed, which is why she can clarify it quickly after her actual discharge. The previously shown cases of the 4th season are old, unsolved cases, to which Schnell found the solution in deep sleep.
