The Cürassier Regiment Des Fours was a cavalry unit of the Imperial Army of the Holy Roman Empire in the 17th century. The first regimental owner and commanding officer was the then colonel and later field marshal Don Balthasar Maradas .

Formation history

  • According to the order, the regiment was set up on May 23, 1616 with Spanish money in the strength of 500 horses.
  • 1618: With a further appointment on July 7th, the unit was increased by another 500 Arquebusier horses.
  • 1621: In that year, four newly recruited companies had to be given up for the establishment of the "Cürassier Regiment Avandago".
  • 1626: The previously independent company of Rittmeister Conti and Caraffa was incorporated into the regiment.
  • 1628: The previously independent company of Rittmeister Magno was incorporated into the regiment
  • 1640: The ordered incorporation of the regiment into the Cürassier Regiment Louis Gonzage was not carried out.
  • 1642: The regiment was the Cürassier regiments Bruay and Alt-Piccolomini divided

After the regiment had failed in the Battle of Breitenfeld in turn, it was conceded (service dismissed), the commander, Colonel of the Fours, before a court martial found and on June 10, 1643 in Prague executed .

In 1619 Colonel Sergeant Aeneas Count Piccolomini was killed in action near Moldauthein .
