history

Lomnice was first mentioned in a document in 1220. The first news about the castle of the same name come from the time of Ulrich von Lomnitz's rule in 1265. In the 14th century, Wilhelm von Landstein and his son of the same name, Wilhelm the Younger, who had the Wenceslas Church built in 1359, belonged to their owners from the Witigonen family . In 1382 the town was raised by Wenzel IV , who had acquired the place with the castle of the same name a year earlier from Konrad Kraiger von Kraigk in exchange for Landstein and Bistritz . During the Hussite Wars , Lomnice Castle fell into desolation and was never rebuilt. The new owner was Ulrich II von Rosenberg in 1435 , who added the town to the Třeboň domain .

In the 15th and 16th centuries, the Rosenbergs had large fish ponds built between Třeboň and Lomnice. The Koclířov, Velký Tisý, Malý Tisý, Dvořiště and Rosenberg ponds, as well as the Golden Canal connecting them all, were built under the direction of the chief fish master Štěpán Netolický from 1490 . After Netolický's death, Jakob Krčín von Jelčany continued the work.

After the Rosenbergs died out in 1611 with Peter Wok von Rosenberg in the male line, the Schwanbergers inherited Lomnice. The turmoil of the Thirty Years War brought the city to complete decline.

In 1660 the Schwarzenbergs became the owners of Lomnice. On the orders of Emperor Joseph II, Lomnice was given the addition of nad Lužnicí / an der Lainsitz to distinguish it from other places in 1789 , although the place is two and a half kilometers west of the river between the Tisý potok and the Golden Canal.

After patrimonial was replaced, Lomnice nad Lužnicí became a district court in 1850. Between 1855 and 1868 a district administration was located and from 1895 to 1928 the place was the seat of the district Lomnitz an der Lainsitz / Okres Lomnice nad Lužnicí. In 1876 the city received a station on the railway from Prague to Vienna.

In 1949 the Lomnice nad Lužnicí District Court was closed. In 1960 Lomnice lost its town charter, they were redistributed on June 29, 1994 by decision of the Czech Parliament. The historical city coat of arms was confirmed in 1998, since then the city has also carried a banner.
