Dolní Žďár (German Niedermühl ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located five kilometers south of Jindřichův Hradec ( Neuhaus ) and belongs to the Okres Jindřichův Hradec .

geography

The line village Dolní Žďár is located on the right bank of the Nežárka ( Naser ) in the eastern edge of the Wittingau basin to Javořická vrchovina. The European route 551 runs on the left side of the river . The place is surrounded by several fish ponds.

Neighboring towns are Horní Žďár in the north, Dolní Pěna ( Niederbaumgarten ) and Horní Pěna ( Oberbaumgarten ) in the northeast, Malíkov nad Nežárkou in the east, Nová Ves ( Schönborn ) in the southeast, Horní Lhota ( Oberschlagles ) and Lásenice ( Lassenitz ) in the south, Vydří ( Widern ) and Polště ( Poschen ) in the west and Políkno in the northwest.

history

The village was first mentioned in documents in 1411. The area still largely consisted of forests, which were only gradually cleared. The name of the neighborhood Oberschlagles gives an indication of this. The registers have been kept in Oberbaumgarten since 1610. In 1668 there are 12 names in Niedermühl in the tax rolls. The place always belonged to Neuhaus until 1848. Between 1610 and 1666, Niedermühl was parish in Horní Pěna ( Oberbaumgarten ). The neighboring town of Oberschlagles has always been part of the town. Both were merged into one municipality in 1848. In contrast, the Obermühl district was administered separately from 1790 and in 1848 declared an independent municipality in the judicial district of Trautenau . In 1895 a volunteer fire brigade was founded in the village.

After the First World War and the peace treaty of Saint Germain (1919), the place, whose inhabitants belonged to 95% of the German language group in 1910, became part of the new Czechoslovak Republic . In the interwar period, there was an increase in the influx of people with Czech identity due to the appointment of new officials and new settlers. After the Munich Agreement , the place came to the German Reich in 1938 and became part of the Reichsgau Niederdonau .

After the end of the Second World War (May 8, 1945) - which claimed 23 victims - the territories transferred to Germany in the Munich Agreement were reassigned to Czechoslovakia . Four German citizens died when the population of German origin was mistreated by Revolutionary Guards. The Czech "partisans" took over the place and on May 29, 1945 drove all local residents wildly across the border into Austria. The property of the German residents was confiscated by the Beneš decree 108 and the local Catholic church was expropriated during the communist era . In accordance with the original transfer goals of the Potsdam Declaration, the Red Army demanded in January 1946 the deportation of all Sudeten Germans from Austria to Germany. About 10% of the displaced were able to stay in Austria, while the remaining residents were transferred to Germany.

On July 1, 1974 Dolní Žďár was incorporated into the village of Lásenice.

Coat of arms and seal

No village court seal could be found for Niedermühl. It is assumed that all legal matters were dealt with by the village judge of neighboring Lassenitz. Between 1848 and 1938 the place had its own community temple.
