geography

The fishing village of Velký Ratmírov is located in South Bohemia in a pond landscape in the headwaters of the Ratmírovský potok. The railway line from Jindřichův Hradec ( Neuhaus ) to Veselí nad Lužnicí passes to the south, and the next stop is in Děbolín.

Neighboring towns are Studnice ( Brunn ) in the northeast, Drahýška in the east, Děbolín ( Dieblin ) in the southeast, Matná ( Motten ) and Ratiboř ( Rothwurst ) in the south, Mnich ( Münichschlag ) in the southwest, Plasná ( Plasna ) in the west and Klenov in the northwest.

history

The village "Radmirow" , which belonged to the Neuhaus rulership, was first mentioned in a document in 1420. It has a German settlement character. The place name is probably derived from Ratmír von Neuhaus. The addition "Groß-" occurs for the first time in 1568 to distinguish the town from the town of "Klein-Rammerschlag" east of Neuhaus. First written as “Groß-Romerschlag”, the spelling changed in 1840 to today's “Groß-Rammerschlag”. In the middle of the 16th century, silver mining was carried out between Velký Ratmírov and Děbolín, and a glassworks in Velký Ratmírov produced white glass. In 1598 the village, which was parish after Riegerschlag, consisted of 33 farmsteads.

During the Thirty Years' War the place was sacked by imperial troops in 1631 and later burned several times. The parish registers of the place should be included with Rieger impact since 1,651th In the 17th century, Groß Rammerschlag was the seat of a village judge. The place was always part of the Neuhaus rule until 1848. In 1891 a volunteer fire brigade was founded. In 1896 a two-class elementary school was built in the village. In 1908 half the village burned down and 44 houses and the chapel were destroyed.

After the First World War and the peace treaty of Saint Germain in 1919, the place, 91% of which belonged to the German language group in 1910, became part of the new Czechoslovak Republic . In the interwar period, there was an increase in the influx of people with Czech identity due to the appointment of new officials and new settlers. After the Munich Agreement , the place came to the German Reich in 1938 and became part of the Reichsgau Niederdonau .

After the end of the Second World War , which claimed 20 victims among the residents of Groß Rammerschlag, the community came back to Czechoslovakia. On May 30, 1945, the place was occupied by militant Czechs at the same time as the surrounding towns. They took eight people hostage and then, apart from 40 people, drove the local population and finally the hostages across the border into Austria. the property of the German local residents was confiscated by the Beneš decree 108 , and the Catholic Church was expropriated during the communist era . 30 people remained in Austria. 264 were forwarded to Germany and two emigrated to Canada.

In the 1960s it was incorporated into Jindřichův Hradec. In the following years the St. Angelo Custode chapel and the school building were demolished.

Coat of arms and seal

The community seal was presented in 1658 by Ferdinand Wilhelm Graf Slawata von Chlumetz und Koschumberg. It shows a rose and an eagle's wing, surrounded by the inscription with the name of the village. The rose should have been taken from the count's coat of arms. The towns of Ratibor and Klein Rammerschlag also had the same coat of arms.
