history
The village was first mentioned in 1367 when the Dvořiště pond was created. The first fish ponds were created in the 13th century and when the owner of Lomnice, Ješek von Kosova Hora, had the Dvořiště built with a stone dam, fields and meadows of Smržov were flooded.
During the Rosenbergs , the Golden Canal was built under the direction of Štěpánek Netolický . In the course of the hydraulic engineering work, the Koclířov pond was also created. After the battle of the White Mountain , a battle broke out on the embankment of the pond between the insurgent troops of Heinrich Matthias von Thurns and the imperial army under Charles Bonaventure de Longueval, Comte de Bucquoy . In the turmoil of the Thirty Years' War it was mainly the troops of Baltasar von Marradas that harassed the population. When Johann Adolf von Schwarzenberg became the owner of the place in 1660 , he had small chapels built in Smržov and other places to commemorate the sufferings of the residents during the war. These chapels were called Marradas chapels by the villagers.
Today, the Dvořiště pond is mainly used for recreation; there is a campsite and holiday complexes with 130 cottages on its banks.
