Jilem (German Jelmo ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located 14 kilometers west of Telč and belongs to the Okres Jindřichův Hradec .
geography
Jilem is located in the southwest of Moravia in the Javořická vrchovina. To the north rises the 677 m high Bukovice.
Neighboring towns are Zahrádky and Domašín in the north, Studená in the northeast, Skrýchov in the southeast, Horní Němčice in the south, Horní Meziříčko and Strmilov in the southwest, Palupín in the west and Horní Dvorce in the northwest.
history
The village was first mentioned in documents when it was sold in 1358 by Nikolaus Kadolt von Neuhaus to Diepold von Jilem. Owners changed several times until the 16th century. For a time Jilem belonged to Studená , after which it was acquired by Babkov von Meziříčko. In 1593 Adam II von Neuhaus bought the Meziříčko estate including Jilem and added them to his property in Telč . Jilem later came back to the Studená rule in the Jihlava district, to which it belonged until the abolition of patrimonial rule in 1849. In 1850 it was assigned to the new political district of Dačice and between 1855 and 1868 to the district of Telč. In 1880 Jilem had 283 inhabitants and in 1900 there were 256.
After the dissolution of Okres Dačice, Jilem became part of Okres Jindřichův Hradec in 1960.
