Majdalena , formerly Svatá Máří Magdaléna , (German Sankt Maria Magdalena , also St. Magdalena ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located ten kilometers southeast of Třeboň and belongs to the Okres Jindřichův Hradec .

geography

Majdalena is located in the area of UNESCO - biosphere reserve Třeboňsko between the Lainsitz and the channel Zlatá stoka in the plane of the Třeboň basin . There are several large fish ponds to the northeast. The Pilař weir, two kilometers south-east, where the Golden Canal begins, is mainly known to water sports enthusiasts on the Lainsitz. Over 30 people have died there so far in attempts to overcome the dangerous weir. The Koštěnický potok flows into the Lainsitz below the weir .

Neighboring towns are Lutová in the northeast, Chlum u Třeboně in the east, Kosky in the southeast, Suchdol nad Lužnicí in the south, Cep in the southwest, Herda and Barbora in the west and Holičky and Třeboň in the northwest.

The railway from Třeboň from České Velenice runs through Majdalena, the railway station at the southern end of the village is called Chlum u Třeboně , the one in Majdalena zastávka .

history

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1397.

After the replacement of patrimonial Svatá Máří Magdaléna formed a district of the Herda municipality. In 1897 the Majdalena volunteer fire brigade was founded .

No districts are identified for the municipality of Majdalena. The settlements of Barbora ( St. Babara ), Herda and Pilař belong to Majdalena . Basic settlement units are Herda, Majdalena and Pilař.
