Suchdol nad Lužnicí (German Suchenthal , also Suchental ) is a city in the Czech Republic . It is located 16 kilometers southeast of Třeboň and belongs to the Okres Jindřichův Hradec .

geography

Suchdol nad Lužnicí is located on the left bank of the Lainsitz above the mouth of the Dračice ( tear Bach ) in the field of the UNESCO biosphere reserve Třeboňsko in the plane of Wittingauer basin . There are several fish ponds in the vicinity of the town, including the large Tušť pond opposite to the right of the Lainsitz. The European route 49 and the railway from Třeboň to České Velenice run through Suchdol nad Lužnicí .

Neighboring towns are Benátky and Majdalena in the north, Hamr in the north-east, Klikov, Paříž and Tušť in the east, Halámky in the south-east, Hrdlořezy in the south, Tři Facky in the south-west, Bor and Synochov in the west and Cep in the north-west.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1362. Suchdol was part of the Wittingau rule and belonged to the von Landstein family . Further owners were the Rosenbergs and after their expiry the Schwanberger . After the Battle of the White Mountain , their confiscated property fell to Emperor Ferdinand II. In 1660 the Schwarzenberg House was acquired by Suchdol. After patrimonial was replaced in 1848, Suchenthal became an independent municipality. In the middle of the 19th century, Carl Stölzle senior acquired the glassworks, which became part of his company, Stölzle Glasindustrie. His son of the same name, Carl Stölzle junior, ran the business in Suchental from 1865 to 1872 after the death of his father. In 1876 it was raised to a market town. On May 24, 1945, 14 people were tortured and executed in the then still independent community of Schwarzbach (Tušť) after a hearing by a "people's court". In 1953, numerous ancestral residents were forcibly relocated to the interior of Czechoslovakia because the communist rulers believed they had to protect the border area from espionage and agents.

Suchdol nad Lužnicí has ​​been a town since December 14, 2005.
