history

This branch of the Witigonen family came into being after the property of Witiko von Prčice († 1194) was divided among his four sons. The progenitor of the Landsteiners was his youngest son Witiko IV (also Witiko von Klokoty ; Czech Vítek IV. Z Klokot ; Vítek z Klokot ), who died in 1234.

Only after the acquisition of Landstein Castle around 1250 did his descendants call themselves von Landstein . Around 1259, Landstein Castle was owned by Ulrich von Landstein ( Olbřich z Landštejna ). He was followed by Sezema and Witiko / Vítek, sons of Hojer ( Ojíř ) from Lomnitz . Witiko / Vítek († 1312) distinguished himself in the defense of Znojmo and took part in the fight against her brother-in-law Heinrich of Carinthia on the part of the later wife of the Bohemian King Johann von Luxemburg , Elisabeth . The best-known representative of this family was Wilhelm von Landstein († 1356). During his reign, Landstein included Neubistritz , Wittingau , Lomnitz and Gratzen . In the second half of the 14th century this branch of the family became impoverished. After the Landstein Castle was sold in 1381 to the Kraiger von Kraigk family , descendants of the Landstein family lived in the Bohemian towns of Borotín, Tuchoraz and Střela and in Moravia , where they owned the Morawan and Milotitz rule . The Moravian branch called itself from the second half of the 14th century from Morawan ( z Moravan ). The last male descendant of this branch of the family was Ctibor from Morawan on Světlov , who died around 1478.

In the middle of the 15th century, the Bohemian Oberstlandschreiber Nikolaus von Landstein († 1484) founded the Svitáček von Landstein family branch ( Svitáček z Landštejna ), which existed until the beginning of the 17th century.
