Messrs. Kraiger von Kraigk (also Krajíř von Krajek ; Kragirz von Krajk ; Kragirz von Kragk ; Chreich ; Kreig ; Kreigh , Criwih , in Czech Krajíř z Krajku ) belonged to the oldest ministerial families in Carinthia . From the end of the 13th century they were also represented in Bohemia and Moravia , where they acquired further property in the 15th century and founded their own branch of the family. They also acquired lands in Lower Austria from their Bohemian and Moravian possessions .

history

The headquarters of Mr. Kraiger von Kraigk were the Kraiger castles Hochkraig and Niederkraig. The remaining castle ruins are located on the southern slope of the Kraiger mountain north of Sankt Veit an der Glan .

The oldest known representative of Messrs. Kraiger von Kraigk was Dietrich von Kriwig ( Dieterus de Krywgg ), who in 1091 testified to a letter for the St. Paul Abbey in Lavanttal . From 1168 the Kraiger von Kraigk were vassals , from 1249 Truchessen of the Duke of Carinthia , where they also held the office of Lord Mayor. They were also ministerials from Gurk . Georg Chreyger is mentioned in a document on August 28, 1404 as a canon and pastor of Salzburg; he died before May 28, 1405. The last male descendant of the Carinthian branch of the family was probably Konrad Kraiger von Kraigk, who died in 1564. Wolfgang and Friedrich von Hardegg , sons of Konrad's sister Barbara , inherited his property .

Members of the Bohemian-Moravian branch of the family, mostly referred to as Krajíř von Krajek ( Krajíř z Krajku ), were in the service of the kings of Bohemia. They held royal state offices as governors , governors , high chancellors, high castle counts and high judges. During the Reformation they supported the Bohemian Brothers . The last male descendant of this branch of the family is said to have been Joachim Kraiger von Kraigk, who died in the early 17th century.

At times the Bohemian-Moravian branch of the family owned Brandeis , Čelakowitz , Datschitz , Großrohosetz ( Hruby Rohozec ), Jung-Bunzlau , Landstein , Bistritz , Turnau and Ungarschitz as well as Dobersberg , Gilgenberg, Litschau and Reitzenschlag in Lower Austria .
