Franz Karl Wißgrill (* 1736 in Vienna , † December 5, 1803 in Vienna) was an Austrian genealogist , heraldist and kk real court secretary as well as kk court commission councilor. He wrote the work “Scene of the rural Lower Austrian nobility from the lordship and knighthood of the XI. Century on, up to the present day ”about the Lower Austrian nobility, which found a number of editions.

As he describes in his work, for several years he devoted his “spare hours” to collecting material on the Lower Austrian nobility in archives and registries. His aim was to collect news from all Lower Austrian nobles , dynasts , lords and knights from the 11th century onwards based on evidence from old memorial books, repertories , purchase and fiefdom letters and other archival documents. His work includes pedigrees , biographies , genealogies , rare documents and anecdotes. He was encouraged to do this work by people from the nobility, who also provided him with essays on their families and relatives. Four volumes (A – B, C – E, F – G and H – J) were published between 1794 and 1800.

The kk court agent Karl von Odelga bought the four-volume work, including all notes, from the widow Wißgrill's. However, by 1804 he only completed the printing of a fifth volume (letters K – Lem). Nevertheless, the complete work remained unfinished and ends in the middle of the alphabet with the article "Lempach".

The Wißgrillgasse in Vienna- Penzing (14th district) and several streets in Lower Austria were named after him.
