Dynast

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dynast (Greek for "ruler, ruler") is a regent or little prince.

In the Greek state, dynasts were those who had seized the government through an act of violence, e.g. B. the 30 tyrants in Athens ( the dynasty differed from tyranny in the majority of rulers).

In the Middle Ages , dynasts were those counts and lords who came into possession of their own imperial-free territories when the old Gauconstitution fell into disrepair in the 11th century . As old barons and Semperfree, they belonged to the princely high nobility and formed a middle class between the owners of real old counties and the mere knightly middle free . When the latter were later often given the title of barons, almost all of the old barons accepted the title of count . Among the dynasts of the Middle Ages are the ancestors of most of the German regent houses.

Nowadays the heads of a dynasty are sometimes called dynasties.
