history

Ledenice Town Hall

Ledenice was first mentioned in a document in 1278 and at that time it was owned by the Witigon family branch of the Lords of Krumlov . Witiko II. Von Krumau was the first to carry the title "von Ledenitz" ( z Ledenice ). It is documented for the years 1272–1290. He was presumably followed by his younger brother Wok von Krumau and Ledenitz , who died on January 5, 1300. Two other brothers ( Johann / Henclinus von Skalitz and Budiwoj von Skalitz ) also had the addition of Ledenitz to their name, but both died in the year 1300. Probably after the death of Wok II von Krumau , with which the family branch of the Lords of Krumau died out, Ledenice came to the Witigonischen family branch Landstein . His family member Smil von Ledenitz ( Smil z Ledenic ) was the first to add the name “von Ledenitz” and died around 1358. It is likely that the Landsteiners granted Ledenice the rights of a town before 1398 and its coat of arms with the five-petalled silver rose on a red background.

At the beginning of the 15th century, Ledenitz came under the rule of Wittingau , which at that time was owned by the Rosenberg family branch, which was also Witigon . They granted Ledenice a number of privileges, including brewing rights. During the Hussite Wars, the Ledenitz fortress, which was called "Landstein" ( Landštejn ), was destroyed. After the death of the last Rosenberger, Peter Wok von Rosenberg, in 1611, Ledenitz came to the Schwanberg family , whose possessions were confiscated by the emperor after the battle of the White Mountain .

After the abolition of patrimonial Ledenitz became an independent municipality in 1849. In addition to agriculture, the carpentry trade has been of economic importance since 1830. In 1904 Ledenitz received gas lighting and twenty years later it was electrified. Since 2007 Ledenice has the status of Městys .
