Nejsvětější Trojice Church

Trhové Sviny (German Schweinitz ) is a town southeast of České Budějovice in the Czech region of Jihočeský kraj near the confluence of the Farský potok in the Svinenský potok. The place has 4,705 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2004) and the cadastral area extends to 1500 hectares.

history

The first documentary mention comes from the year 1260, in which a man named Hojer von Schweinitz is mentioned ( Ojíř from Svin from the Witigonen family ). In 1481 King Vladislav gave Sviny the right to brew beer and hold a market twice a year. The name of the place was then supplemented with the addition Trhové .

name of the city

The Czech place name is derived from trh "market"; svinout “wrap”, “roll”, “roll up”; but svině "Sau", hence "Schweinitz" in German.

Culture and sights

To the south of the village is the Nejsvětější Trojice Church , a Baroque pilgrimage church dedicated to the Holy Trinity from the beginning of the 18th century. The beginnings of the pilgrimage go back to the 16th century when, according to legend, three children or beautifully dressed youths appeared and asked for the church to be built. Next to the church is a small chapel in which a spring rises.
