Žabovřesky (German Schabowres , formerly Žabowřesk ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located eleven kilometers west of České Budějovice in South Bohemia and belongs to the Okres České Budějovice .

geography

Žabovřesky is located on the right side of the Dehtářský creek in the Budweiser Basin. To the west is the Dehtář pond . In the south rises the Na Buchtách (423 m), to the west of the Vosí vrch (441 m).

Neighboring towns are Žabovřeský Mlýn, Na Drahách, Břehov , Picina and Češnovice in the north, Čejkovice in the north-east, Jaronice in the east, Křenovice and Dubné in the south-east, Kvítkovice , Podvrážský Mlýn and Čakovec, Ticukovsko in the south, Čakov , Kalesa in the south Bašta and Dehtáře in the west and Tupesy in the northwest.

history

Ceramic finds on the Vosí vrch, which range from the Young Bronze Age to the Hallstatt and Latène Periods to the Early Middle Ages , prove that the area was settled at an early age.

The first written mention of the village of Zabobrziek , which belongs to the Poděhusy Fortress, took place on May 26, 1334, when King John of Luxembourg exchanged the village with Dehtáře and Radošovice for 720 shock groschen from Peter I von Rosenberg for the border castle Janovice . Subsequently, the village belonged to the possessions of the Lords of Rosenberg . Peter Wok von Rosenberg finally bequeathed Žabovřesky to Peter Kořenský von Terešov, from whom it fell to the monastery in Český Krumlov and later to the Český Krumlov rule. In 1840 Zawobřesk consisted of 50 houses with 333 inhabitants. The parish was Duben . Until the middle of the 19th century, the village was always subject to the Krumlov rule.

After the abolition of patrimonial formed Žabovřesky / Zawobřesk 1850 a municipality in the district administration Budějovice / Budweis. In 1914 there were 389 Czech-speaking residents in the village. In 1960 Dehtáře, Břehov, Jaronice, Radošovice, Strýčice and Tupesy were incorporated. These broke up in 1990 with the exception of Dehtáře.

Community structure

The municipality Žabovřesky consists of the districts Dehtáře ( Dechtern ) and Žabovřesky ( Schabowres ), which also form cadastral districts. To Žabovřesky also includes the monolayer Na Drahách and ŽABOVŘESKY Mlyn.

Place name

The place name Žabovřesky can be translated as frog crying , and is derived from the frogs that live here in numerous ponds, ponds and swamps.

In September 2006, Žabovřesky hosted the fourth international meeting of the Žab communities, attended by delegations from Žabokliky , Žabovřesky nad Ohří , Žabokreky and Žabokreky nad Nitrou .
