Cesare Vecellio (* around 1521 in Pieve di Cadore , † March 2, 1601 in Venice ) was an Italian painter.

Life

Cesare Vecellio was a distant relative of the painter Tiziano Vecellio and a student of his brother Francesco. In 1548 he accompanied Titian to Augsburg and from then on worked for him in his workshop in Venice until his death in 1576. Around 1577 Vecellio painted the wooden coffered ceiling of the church of Santa Maria Assunta in Lentiai . Other works ascribed to him are in Belluno in the cathedral and in the Palazzo Piloni, in Pieve di Cadore and other places in the province of Belluno , in Tarzo and Borgo Valsugana , as well as an image of the Trinity in the Brera in Milan . In Venice, in the San Moisè district, he had his workshop and printing shop for his woodcut work.

Vecellio has an extensive sample book for lace making written and in his lifetime twice Lay- costume book about ancient and modern clothing styles from different parts of the world, whose more than 500 stitches native of Nuremberg Christoforo Chrieger anfertigte after Vecellios drawings in Venice. Vecellio's stitches were reprinted several times.

From the book collector Odorico Piloni from Belluno, he received orders for frontispiece - and Buchschnitt paintings .
