history

Evidence of an early settlement is provided by several Bronze Age barrows from the time of the Slavic castle hill culture in the vicinity of the place.

The village emerged in the lordly forests as a charcoal settlement on the old trade route from Budweis to Prague , which overcame the highest point over the Lischauer Schwelle between the Budweiser Basin and Wittingau Basin . The first mention of the village of Chotayczany , which belonged to the royal Froburg , was made in a document by Charles IV in 1378. The subsequent owners included the lords of Lobkowicz , von Pernstein , von Neuhaus and Malovec von Malovice . The location on the trade route led in 1470 to the establishment of an Ausspannwirtschaft. During times of war, the place was affected by troop marches and looting, and in the 16th century robbers were up to mischief in the forests and attacked merchants who were passing through. After financial speculation and the participation in the class uprising of 1618, the goods of the Malovec of Malovice were confiscated and in 1623 the rule was transferred to Baltasar of Marradas , who had them recatholized.

In 1661 the von Marradas sold the rule to the princes Schwarzenberg . In 1840 Schmiedtgraben / Kotegcan or Chotegcan consisted of 25 houses with 238 inhabitants. There was an inn in the village. The parish was Hosín . Until the middle of the 19th century, the village was always subject to the Frauenberg rule.

After the abolition of patrimonial formed Chotýčany / Schmidt ditch after 1850 a district of the municipality Dobřejovice in Budějovice . In 1854 a separate village school was built, before lessons took place in Hosín. In 1868 Chotýčany broke away from Dobřejovice and formed its own municipality. In 1873 a train station was built north of the village, and the following year the České Budějovice – Veselí nad Lužnicí railway was put into operation. The last kiln was lit in 1908, after which the tradition of charcoal burning died out. In 1910 there were 260 Czech-speaking residents in Chotýčany / Schmiedgraben . In 1924 it was connected to the electricity network. A settlement formed at the station in the 20th century. On July 1, 1975 it was incorporated into Ševětín . The school closed in 1980 and demolished six years later. After a referendum, Chotýčany broke away from Ševětín on November 24, 1990.
