The railway line České Budějovice – Veselí nad Lužnicí is an electrified main line ("celostátní dráha") in the Czech Republic , which was originally built and operated by the kk priv. Kaiser Franz-Josephs-Bahn (KFJB). It runs in South Bohemia from České Budějovice ( Budweis ) to Veselí nad Lužnicí and, as an upgraded line, is part of the IVth Railway Corridor in the Czech Republic.

history

The route was opened on June 8, 1874.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

IV. Railway corridor in the Czech Republic

In February 2018, the Czech Ministry of Transport approved the completely new construction of the Nemanice I – Ševětín section as part of the IV Corridor expansion project. The new route with two longer tunnels, designed for a line speed of 200 km / h, will replace the previous, arcuate and detoured route via Hluboká nad Vltavou. The tunnel Chotýčanský with a length of 4775 meters of date here will be after completion of the longest railway tunnel in the Czech Republic. The Chotýčanský tunnel with a construction length of 4810 meters will be the longest railway tunnel in the Czech Republic after completion. The line is to be built between 2022 and 2025.

Narrow-gauge forest railways

After the hailstorm of June 10, 1916 also caused enormous damage in the Mojský les and Velechvínské polesí forest areas between Nemanice, Úsilné , Bída and Ševětín , Prince Johann zu Schwarzenberg had great difficulty recovering the windbreak. Because of the war there was a shortage of men, horses and wagons. Therefore, between 1917 and 1918, he had two narrow-gauge forest railways built from the České Budějovice – Veselí nad Lužnicí railway line. One of them led from Ševětín to the Velechvínské polesí. The other 760 mm route led over 6.5 kilometers from Kněžské Dvory below Bída through the valley of the Kyselová voda into the Mojský les; it was completed in March 1918 and operated until 1921.
