The railway line České Velenice – České Budějovice is a single-track, electrified main line in the Czech Republic , which was originally built and operated by the imperial-kk-privileged Kaiser-Franz-Josephs-Bahn as part of its main connection between Vienna and Eger . It runs in southern Bohemia from the Gmünd / České Velenice railway junction to České Budějovice ( Budweis ).

Route description

The continuous single-track line connects České Budějovice (Budweis) with Gmünd in Lower Austria . From there there is a connection to the Franz-Josefs-Bahn to Vienna . The Budweis – Nové Hrady section was electrified by 2009 , and electrical operation between Vienna and Prague has been possible since June 2010. Due to the different electricity systems in both countries, however, a locomotive change at the border or the use of multi-system locomotives is necessary. The passenger trains from Vienna Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof to České Velenice are run with the ÖBB 1116 , here there is a connection to the regional trains to České Budějovice.
