Správa železnic (German: Railway Administration ) is the state railway infrastructure company in the Czech Republic . Správa železnic is a state organization (“státní organizace”) operator and owner of all railway lines owned by the Czech state . It was created on January 1, 2003 as Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) by splitting off from the state railway company České dráhy (ČD).

The task of the state organization is to ensure the operation, management, modernization and development of the railways.

history

Law No. 77/2002 of February 5, 2002 was the basis for the establishment of a separate infrastructure company for the state-owned railways in the Czech Republic. It came into force on January 1, 2003 when SŽDC was split off from ČD. With the exception of a few branch lines, SŽDC has since managed almost the entire railway network in the Czech Republic (9,467 km). In addition to SŽDC, there are five other railway infrastructure companies in the Czech Republic that operate railways with public transport: Jindřichohradecké místní dráhy (79 km), PDV Railway (37 km), SART (22 km), Advanced World Transport (20 km) and KŽC (5 km) ).

Great efforts are made by SŽDC to rebuild the outdated railway stations from the Austro-Hungarian era without platforms on the main lines that meet today's requirements in terms of width, height and material. One example of this is the Děčín station on the main Prague – Dresden line ( Elbe Valley Railway ). Since 2008, the Prague main train station has been in a major renovation phase. In 2014 the central part of the historic building reopened, but a renovation phase is still ongoing.

On January 1, 2020, Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) was renamed Správa železnic on the basis of State Law 367/2019 of December 31, 2019 . The change took effect on January 15, 2020.

Transport corridors

The rail network is currently being expanded in the four national multimodal corridors; H. parallel to the other modes of transport, road and waterway. These were also part of the Pan-European Transport Corridors . It was corridor No. IV Dresden − Prague − Bratislava / Vienna − Budapest − Arad with the branch Nuremberg − Prague, and corridor No. VI Gdańsk − Warsaw − Katowice − Žilina with the branch Katowice − Ostrava − Břeclav / Brno . In 2004, decision 884/2004 / EC extended the development of the trans-European transport networks (TEN-T) to the new EU member states. There are two TEN-T railway projects in the Czech Republic: No. 22 - Railway axis Athens – Sofia – Budapest – Vienna – Prague – Nuremberg / –Dresden with the Břeclav – Prague – Nuremberg rail link and the Prague – Linz section, and No. 23 - Railway axis Gdansk – Warsaw – Brno – Bratislava / –Wien with the railway connection Katowice – Břeclav.

The rail connection of the so-called 1st Corridor ( Berlin – Dresden -) Děčín - Prague - Brno - Břeclav (- Vienna ) has been largely modernized . Here a maximum line speed of 160 km / h realized. An important part of the project was the better connection of the Prague main train station to the route coming from the north. The four-track " New Connection ", which went into operation in December 2008, has been created for this purpose since 1999 . International trains, which previously only stopped at the peripheral Praha-Holešovice station , can now reach the main station directly.

In 2019, joint feasibility studies will begin with DB Netz for a new line north of Ústí nad Labem to supplement the Elbe Valley Railway, which cannot be further expanded. Construction is expected to start after 2025. In addition to the Ore Mountains Tunnel, a feasibility study for a high-speed line will be carried out by summer 2019 for the entire route to Prague.

From this line, the 2nd corridor branches off via Olomouc towards Slovakia and Poland . The total length is 213 km.

The third corridor leads from the border at Mosty u Jablunkova via Ostrava to Prague and from there via Pilsen to Cheb . In Germany there is a connection to the railway line towards Nuremberg . This corridor with a total length of 665 km east of Prague shares most of its route with Corridors 1 and 2.

The expansion of the western section Prague – Cheb is expected to cost a total of 55 billion crowns (approx. 2.2 billion euros). The entire route is divided into seven construction lots. In May 2009, work had already started in four stages. The Plzeň-Stříbro section has already been completed. The construction work should be completed by 2016. The travel time between Prague and Cheb would then be reduced from 3.5 hours to 1.5 hours.

A notable undertaking is the new construction of the Prague – Beroun line. The Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic approved the construction for 2019. The long-distance trains will no longer run in the winding Berounka Valley, where a sensible expansion would hardly be possible, but both places on a 27th km long new line. This runs mostly in tunnels and is half the length of the previous route. The maximum speed in the new section should be 270 km / h, while the remaining expansion sections are designed for maximum route speeds of 160 km / h can be converted. This line is the first construction phase of the planned high-speed line Praha – Plzeň – Bavaria . To this end, a high-speed line called the Danube-Vltava Railway is being investigated for the connection between Munich and Prague .

The 4th corridor cuts through the Czech Republic in a north-south direction. From Děčín it runs parallel to Corridor 1 to Prague and from there via České Budějovice (Budweis) to the border near Summerau , where there is a connection to Linz .

Extensive expansion work is taking place in the section south of Prague. Four tracks are being expanded in the vicinity of Prague. To the south of Benešov , extensive line improvements were and are being made by building tunnels. In 2019, the line equipment with ETCS train control and signaling technology began in the Prague – Votice section. Work is being carried out on the complete electrification of the route to Gmünd , so that an alternative and relief route to the 1st corridor is made possible, especially for freight traffic. The section from České Budějovice to Summerau in Austria has already been modernized.

Projects

The Prague – Turnov - Liberec line is also to be expanded as Corridor V in the future. A partial re-routing and expansion for a maximum speed of 160 is planned km / h.

In regional traffic, too, there are currently several projects to modernize the route network. For example, the expansion of the Prague – Kladno line to a real S-Bahn ( “Esko” ) is planned, with the Prague-Ruzyně airport also being connected.

In connection with the general expansion of the line between Brno and the Polish border in Upper Silesia, the first line is to have a maximum speed of 200 km / h arise. Funding has been secured for this in 2019. Further railway lines are being discussed for this speed increase.

Economic data

In the first three quarters of 2011, SŽDC achieved a profit of € 72 million.

Train path prices

For local trains, the SŽDC charges 0.22 on the entire route network € / km. From July 1, 2012, this amount should be 0.30 on the corridor routes € / km can be increased.

Since January 1, 2012, nostalgic, tourist and special trains must be on the entire route network 1.74 Pay € / km.
