Mosty u Jablunkova (German Mosty in the Beskids , also Mosty near Jablunkau , Polish Mosty koło Jabłonkowa ) is a municipality with 4004 inhabitants in northeastern Czech Republic . It is located to the west of the border triangle with Poland and Slovakia in the Jablunkauer Bergland . The six kilometers south of Jablunkov belongs to the Okres Frýdek-Místek . The cadastral area is 3396 ha.
geography
Mosty extends 490 m above sea level. M. in north-south direction in the valley of the Ošetnice, a tributary of the Lomná . The European route 75 / State route 11 between Jablunkov and Čadca runs through the village . Mosty has two road border crossings into Slovakia, in addition to the Mosty u Jablunkova / Svrčinovec transit crossing, there is also the smaller Šance / Milošová crossing over the Jablunka Pass to the west . Mosty is located on the international railway connection Žilina – Bohumín .
The 839 m high Gírová rises to the east, the Malá Skalka (797 m) and the Skalka (931 m) to the west and the Zelená hora (604 m) in the northeast at the Olsa valley .
Neighboring towns are Bocanovice , Městská Lomná, Jablunkov and Lísky in the north, Písek in the northeast, Svrčinovec in the southeast, and Dolní Lomná in the west.
history
The first documentary mention of the place comes from 1578. During this time, because of the Turkish invasion of Hungary, two fortifications were built on the Jablunka Pass to protect the important connecting road between Silesia and Hungary .
In 1869 the Kaschau-Oderberger Railway was built between Silesia and Hungary, which ran through Mosty. A 600 m long tunnel crosses the Jablunka Pass.
In the autumn of 1938 Poland occupied the Olsa area , which brought the strategically important tunnel under Polish control. In the run-up to the attack on Poland , a German commando to occupy the Jablunka Pass attacked the guards at the tunnel and train station on August 26, 1939, in violation of the Hague Land Warfare Regulations . The mission failed, the German commandos could not achieve any of their goals and had to retreat across the border.
tourism
Mosty is a well-known winter sports center. In the summer months, a 650 m long mountain carriage railway is operated for descent in two-seater wagons, which is the first of its kind in the Czech Republic.
