history

In the deep forests of the Beskids, the Ostrawitza formed a natural border between the territory of the Přemyslids and the Piast duchy of Opole since around 1100 . The Šorštýn Castle ( chimney or Schaunstein ) was probably built to protect this border . The river also separated the dominions Friedeck and Hochwald , the latter of which was to the left of the river and had belonged to the Olomouc bishopric since 1177.

Settlement did not reach the Beskid valleys until the end of the 16th century. Huts and hammers as well as individual farmsteads were built here, including Bílá in 1817. The small settlement belonged to Ostrawitz . In 1908 the railway to Althammer was built .

1951 was an area exchange between Ostravice and Stáre Hamry. In the course of this, the settlements Baraní, Bílá and Mezivodí were spun off from Ostravice and became the new municipality of Bílá. The construction of the Šance-Řečice dam resulted in the closure of the railway line at Bílá. In 1974 the mountain village was incorporated into Stáre Hamry. In 1991 it regained its independence.

Bílá is a well-known winter sports center, on the mountain Zbojnická is the most famous downhill slope of the place with a 900 m long drag lift. There are also three more drag lifts on smaller slopes.
