history

The first written mention of the village named after its founder Jan Nidek von Nidek took place in 1456. In 1576 the Evangelical Church of St. Nicholas erected. After the Battle of White Mountain , Nydek began to recatholicize. Iron ore mining began in 1770. The ore was smelted in the Ustroner Hütte from 1772 onwards . Up until the 19th century, Nydek was a small mountain farming village in the Duchy of Teschen , whose inhabitants lived mainly from logging and pasture farming. After the Trzynietzer Eisenwerke was founded in 1839, Nydek grew rapidly and some of the residents were employed in the hut. It is believed that the original name was Neudeck .

After the abolition of patrimonial, Niedek formed a community in the Teschen district from 1850 . The majority of the residents spoke Polish and belonged to the Cieszyn Wallachian ethnic group . After the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, the border between Poland and Czechoslovakia was drawn on the Czantory ridge . Because of the large Polish population, Poland also claimed the Olsa area and the Polish-Czechoslovak border war broke out . From 1920 the place belonged to the Český Těšín district. After the Munich Agreement , Nydek was annexed to Poland in 1938 and joined the German Reich the following year after the occupation of Poland. Until 1945 Niedek belonged to the district of Teschen and came back to Czechoslovakia after the end of the war.

After the dissolution of the Okres Český Těšín, the place came to the Okres Frýdek-Místek at the beginning of 1961. In 1980 it was incorporated as the district of Bystřice 4-Nýdek after Bystřice. Since 1990 Nýdek has formed an independent municipality again. A strong Polish minority lives in Nýdek.

Nýdek is now a winter sports center. The ski jumping facilities of TJ TŽ Třinec are located in the village . International competitions were held on the large hill until 1968, it was abandoned in the 1970s and two smaller hills were built in 1976.
