history

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1615. At that time, the village was owned by the Counts of Würben . The Counts of Oppersdorff and the family of Praschma follow later .

After the abolition of patrimonial Morawka formed a municipality in the Teschen district from 1850 , and from 1908 it belonged to the Friedeck / Frýdek district.

During the time of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia , Morawka became a center of partisan activities. On the slope of the Malý Travný, the partisans built an earth bunker with the help of the inhabitants. In December 1944, the occupiers became aware of the partisans' hiding place and on December 9th SS units stormed the bunker. Eleven of the partisans died. On December 14, 1944, a court martial was held in the inn that sentenced 14 residents to death, and another 10 were deported to concentration camps.

In 1950 the community was reclassified to Okres Místek and after its dissolution it has belonged to Okres Frýdek-Místek since 1961 . Between 1961 and 1967 the Morávka dam was built. In 1971 the village was awarded the Czechoslovak Peace Prize and the honorary title Partyzánská obec (Partisan Community) for its services in the fight against the National Socialists . In 1999, an 85-year-old spruce tree 25 m high was felled in the municipality's forests and delivered to the Vatican as a Christmas tree .

On May 6, 2000, a large meteorite , which was named Morávka, struck the hallways of the village . The three pieces of debris found are in the Prague National Museum . In 2001 two more fragments were found, one of which is privately owned in Ostrava and the other in Vienna .

The village is now a resort.
