Travný is a mountain in the Moravian-Silesian Beskids in the Czech Republic . It is located in the central part of the mountain between the valleys of the Morávka and Mohelnice rivers . The closest places are the municipalities of Morávka and Krásná . Travný reaches a height of 1203 mn m and is one of the four highest peaks of the mountain range.

Two tourist hiking trails lead over the mountain, but there are no other facilities such as shelters or burrows.

geology

Travný belongs to the flysch zone of the Western Carpathians . It consists of solid sand and clay stones , the soils are designed as flat brown earths and podsoles . In the middle and lower area, seas of rocks cover the area. The relief is structured by deeply cut valleys of the mountain streams.

Flora and fauna

The mountain has a beech forest in the lower parts and spruce in the higher parts . The original forests were destroyed during the Wallachian colonization in the 15th-17th centuries. In the 19th century, some alpine meadows gave way, which were managed until the 1950s and then reforested with spruce. In the present, a light forest is growing on the Travný. The forest is visibly damaged by immissions.

There are two nature reserves on the Travný. In the headwaters of the mountain stream of the same name, the 18.68 hectare Travný potok nature reserve has existed since 1955 ; on the western slope, 154.85 hectares were declared a Travný nature reserve in 2000 . In both areas the original vegetation with a primeval forest character has been preserved. In addition to beech trees , silver fir , spruce and sycamore maple are particularly well represented. The average age of the trees is given as 230 years.

Regionally characteristic, also rare species of amphibians, birds and small mammals live in the protected areas. The larger animals include the red deer , the roe deer , the wild boar , the Eurasian lynx , the wolf and the brown bear . In the years 1996-97, a large pack of wolves lived on the Travný. After wolves were allowed to hunt again in neighboring Slovakia in 1999 , the pack disappeared and the animals can only be found sporadically.
