history
According to old traditions, the forest hoof village Kunzendorf was laid out at the beginning of the 14th century during the tenure of the Olomouc bishop Theoderich von Neuhaus . The founder of the village was Kunz , who was in episcopal service at Hochwald Castle , and his people. After its locator, the new settlement was named Kunzendorf or in Czech Kunčice . As a reward, Kunz received five more hooves of land for free use and was appointed bailiff . Until the Kunz family died out in 1499, they held the post of bailiff in Kunzendorf / Kunčice for over 200 years. A glassworks was built in Kunčice around the beginning of the 15th century. In 1587, Bishop Stanislaus Pavlovský von Pavlovitz sold the hut in Huťařství to the glassmaker Dominik Schürer . This important glassmaker delivered to the Prague royal court and was raised to the nobility by Rudolf II as Dominik Schürer von Waldheim in 1592 . Johann Amos Comenius drew the Kunzendorf glassworks in 1621 on his map of the margraviate of Moravia . Over the years, the name of the village changed to distinguish it from places of the same name in Hrubé Kunčice . In 1676 Michael Michna bought the glassworks from the Schürer von Waldheim. He sold it to Jan Konvička in 1690, whose family verifiably owned it until 1797.
In 1695 the residents of Hrubé Kunčice, together with the neighboring villages, took part in an uprising against the episcopal rule Hochwald because of the heavy loads. The glassworks closed around 1800, probably due to the slump in sales as a result of the coalition wars .
In the first half of the 19th century, the mining of iron ore began, which was delivered to the Archbishop's Iron Works in Friedland and Čeladná . The heyday of iron mining was around 1860, in 1896 it was discontinued. The last shaft on the Humbark was collapsed after 1914.
In 1848 the place name was changed from Hrubé Kunčice to Velké Kunčice / Groß Kuntschitz . After the abolition of patrimonial Velké Kunčice formed a municipality in the Mistek district from 1850. At the end of the 19th century the village developed into a popular summer retreat for the affluent society of the Ostrava coalfield. In 1899 Vincenc and Anna Dočkal from Moravian Ostrau opened a hotel with an attached bath and park at the southern foot of the Skalka on the municipality border with Čeladná. After the doctor Jan May from Mariánské Hory bought the hotel and the Pod Skalkou settlement in 1902, he donated the hotel as a spa and sanatorium for the miners from Moravian Ostrava . After the name was expanded to Velké Kunčice pod Radhoštěm at the end of the 19th century, the municipality name was again changed to Kunčice pod Ondřejníkem / Kunzendorf in 1924 . After the Second World War, Kunčice pod Ondřejníkem was assigned to the Okres Frenštát pod Radhoštěm and came to Okres Frýdek-Místek in 1961 after its dissolution . In 1952 the baths in Lázně Skalka were closed and the baths were converted into a branch of the district hospital. The former spa now functions as the Beskydy Rehabilitation Center. Kunčice pod Ondřejníkem is now a resort.
