Theodoric von Neuhaus

Theoderich von Neuhaus (also Dietrich von Neuhaus , Theoderich / Dietrich von Hradec , Dietrich de Novo Foro , Theodoricus de Gradec ; Czech: Dětřich z Hradce ; † October 10, 1302 in Olomouc ) was Bishop of Olomouc .

Life

Theodoric came from the Witigon family branch of the Lords of Neuhaus . His father Witiko I. von Neuhaus was the son of the founder of the Lords of Neuhaus, Heinrich I. von Neuhaus . As the canon of Olomouc, Theodorich arranged for foundations for the Olomouc cathedral chapter and the nunnery at St. Peter's Church in 1280 . After the death of Bishop Bruno von Schauenburg , the cathedral chapter unanimously elected him as his successor in 1281. It was the first choice that the cathedral chapter was allowed to make independently. It was headed by the Archbishop of Mainz, Werner von Eppstein , whose church province also included Bohemia and Moravia . The episcopal ordination took place in the same year by the Prague bishop Tobias von Bechin .

During his tenure, Theodoric limited himself to his episcopal tasks, whereby he did not introduce any innovations. He sought better relationships with the mendicant orders and allowed the Minorites to worship and preach in his diocese. In addition to the chief notary, other notaries and clerks were employed in his episcopal office.

In 1287 he took part in the imperial synod in Würzburg, although it is not known whether he implemented the synodal resolutions in his diocese. In 1296 he founded a collegiate chapter near St. Peter in Brno against the resistance of the Cistercian women of the Tišnov monastery , who had patronage for this church, and handed over the provost to the later Olomouc bishop Peter II of Konitz , who was already richly endowed with benefices. He died on October 10, 1302. His body was buried in the Olomouc Cathedral.
