John XIII Haes

John XIII Haes (also: Johann Haes ; Czech Jan XIII. Ház ; † May 19, 1454 in Müglitz ) was Bishop of Olomouc .

Life

Johannes Haes came from a bourgeois family in Brno and had the academic degree of Dr. iur. utr. He was pastor in Nasmeritz and canon of Olomouc, where he was promoted to provost in 1444 . After the death of the Olomouc bishop Paul von Miličin and Talmberg he was appointed his successor and was confirmed papally on July 8, 1450.

Although John Haes probably the Utraquist priest candidates ordination granted, he convened in 1451 John of Capistrano to Moravia, strengthen its sermons Catholic self-confidence and the Hussite movement should turn had converted believers. Under Capistrano's influence, the Moravian sub-chamberlain Benedikt ( Beneš ) von Boskowitz and his whole family rejoined the Catholic Church in 1451 .

On April 1, 1452, the statutes of the Prague Archbishop Ernst von Pardubitz were also adopted for the Diocese of Olomouc. Since the Archbishop's chair in Prague had not been occupied since 1421 due to the Hussite revolution, Johannes Haes crowned Ladislaus Postumus on October 28, 1453 in the presence of many princes and bishops in Prague as King of Bohemia.

Johannes Haes died in the episcopal city of Müglitz and was buried in the Olomouc Cathedral .
