Johann (es) Frost (also: Johannes XI. Maráz ; Czech: Jan XI. Maráz ; † before July 22, 1403 ) was appointed bishop of Merseburg , bishop of Lebus and bishop of Olomouc .

Life

Johannes Frost came from Skotschitz ( Skočice ) near Klattau in western Bohemia , where his family is said to have belonged to the lower land nobility. He was confidante of King Wenceslaus and since 1386 provost of Zderaz and temporarily provost of the collegiate monastery of St. Peter and Paul in Vyšehrad . In 1390 Pope Boniface IX appointed him . to the bishop of Merseburg. Since the cathedral chapter there refused to approve the appointment, Johannes could not take up the office. That is why the Pope transferred him to Lebus two years later at the request of the king. As bishop of Lebus he founded the Carthusian monastery in Frankfurt (Oder) in 1396 and was involved in political negotiations on behalf of the king.

At a diocesan synod that he convened in Kremsier in 1400 , statutes for the clergy were also issued, which, among other things, required simple clothing and prohibited the carrying of weapons. In addition, pastors should use an official seal and should not change their benefices without the permission of the episcopal. In addition, the veneration of the Moravian patrons Cyril and Method and St. Christina and Cordula recommended.

John's date and place of death are not known. His body was buried in the Olomouc Cathedral.
