Paul von Miličin and Talmberg (also: Paul von Militschin and Thalenberg ; Czech Pavel z Miličína ; † May 2, 1450 ) was Bishop of Olomouc .

Life

Paul von Miličin came from the Bohemian noble family Talmberg . For 1420 he is recorded as a canon of the Prague cathedral chapter , of which he became provost in 1431.

After the death of the Olomouc Bishop Konrad III. von Zwole elected the cathedral chapter Paul von Miličin as his successor. The papal confirmation of January 25, 1435 followed on July 31, 1435 by the legate Philibert de Montjeu , Bishop of Coutances , the episcopal ordination in Brno , at which Emperor Sigismund and Archduke Albrecht of Austria were also present, as they were taking place there at the same time Compact data negotiations took part. The council legates then ordered a visit to the Olomouc possessions. The compromise on chalice communion reached in the negotiations was initially rejected by the Moravian clergy, and the cathedral chapter also opposed the Jihlava negotiations of 1436.

Paul von Miličin's episcopate fell during an economically difficult time caused by the destruction, occupation and pledging of the Hussite Wars . Although he succeeded in re-acquiring individual diocesan property, at the same time he had to pledge other bishopric properties due to financial difficulties.

According to the instructions of Pope Eugene IV , Paul von Miličin took action against married Utraquist priests who were indisciplined and who , however , were protected by the Hussite -minded nobility. Although he initially ordained them , he refused to ordain later candidates. After the Prague bishop's seat had not been occupied since 1421, he crowned the Roman-German King Albrecht II as King of Bohemia on June 29, 1438 .

Paul von Miličin died on May 2, 1450. His body was buried in the Collegiate Church of St. Peter in Brno .
