Andreas I. (Olomouc)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andreas ( Ondřej in Czech ; † May 22, 1096 ) was Bishop of Olomouc from 1091 to 1096.

Life

Possibly he was Andreas von Doubravice , doctor of canon law and provost of the collegiate monastery in Leitmeritz . It is not certain whether he was identical to Wezlo, the chaplain of King Vratislav.

Andreas was appointed Bishop of Olomouc by King Vratislav II of Bohemia and, at his request, was confirmed by the German King Henry IV in Mantua with Bishop Cosmas of Prague on January 4, 1092 . Only on March 12, 1092 are both said to have been consecrated by Archbishop Ruthard of Mainz at a synod in Mainz (which was not mentioned anywhere else). Further information on his term of office has not survived.

He died on May 22, 1096 and was buried in the St. Peter's Cathedral Church in Olomouc.
