Latzek von Krawarn , also Latzek (Ladislaus) von Krawarn ; Czech Vladislav Lacek z Kravař (* around 1374 ; † 1408 in Olomouc ) was Elekt and later Bishop of Olomouc .

Origin and career

Latzek came from the Moravian noble family von Krawarn . His parents were Wok VI. von Krawarn auf Titschein and Stramberg ( Vok VI. z Jičína a Štramberka ) and Anna, geb. von Sternberg and Konopischt. After the death of his father, Latzek inherited the Titschein rule. From an early age he had numerous benefices . He was canon of Breslau , Prague and Gniezno as well as canon in Opole and Glogau .

Elekt from Olomouc

Although the Olomouc cathedral chapter elected Latzek von Krawarn as his successor after the death of Bishop Nikolaus von Riesenburg in 1397, he could not assert himself against Johannes Frost , the candidate of King Wenceslaus IV.

Bishop of Olomouc

After Johannes Frost died in 1403, the cathedral chapter again unanimously elected Latzek von Krawarn as the new bishop of Olomouc. Latzek committed himself to the Roman obedience and then received from Pope Boniface IX. the required retirement allowance. The episcopal ordination took place on May 20, 1403 in Olomouc Cathedral by the Wroclaw Bishop Nicholas of Abelon .

During his tenure, Latzek was able to redeem the Mürau Castle pledged by his predecessor and the Müglitz and Mödritz estates ; also probably Hotzenplotz and Gewitsch . In 1407 he acquired the city of Zwittau from the Hungarian King Sigismund . Construction of the St. Mauritius Church in Olomouc continued, and the Brno churches of St. Peter and St. Jacob expanded.

Since Latzek had pledged to the Roman Curia to pay off debts of 11,000 guilders, which he had largely taken over from his predecessors, he was unable to solve the economic problems of his diocese. He in turn pledged several episcopal goods and took out loans to repay debt.

Latzek died after only four years in office and is believed to have been poisoned. His body was buried in the St. Mauritius Church in Kremsier .
