Jan Copyc (born December 18, 1947 in Zabrze , Silesian Voivodeship ) is a Polish clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Gliwice .

Life

Jan Copyc studied theology and philosophy at the seminary in Nysa ( Neisse ). On April 30, 1972, he received the sacrament of ordination by the bishop of Opole, Franciszek Jop . He then studied church history at the Catholic University of Lublin . He taught at the seminary and was its vice-rector. In 1985 he studied at the Vatican School of Paleography, Diplomatics and Archival Studies .

On 4 December 1992 it appointed Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Cemerinianus and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in Opole . The episcopal ordination received his 1993 Pope John Paul II on January 6 personally. Co- consecrators were the Archbishops of the Curia Giovanni Battista Re and Justin Francis Rigali . In 2004 he was honored with the ring of honor of the Görres Society .

Copyc is a member of the contact group that the Polish maintains for the German Bishops' Conference .

On December 29, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI. the appointment as bishop of the diocese of Gliwice .
