Franciszek Jop

Franciszek Jop (born October 8, 1897 in Stara Słupia , Poland ; † September 24, 1976 in Opole ) was Bishop of Opole (German: Opole ).

Life

The son of Jan and Rozalia Jop attended the Russian school in Warsaw and entered the seminary in Sandomierz in June 1914 . In 1919 he went to study canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . On August 29, 1920, he received the sacrament of ordination in the Cathedral of Sandomierz through Bishop Marian Józef Ryx . He completed his studies in Rome and received his doctorate on July 17, 1922. In the autumn of the same year he became a professor at the seminary in Sandomierz.

On October 24, 1945 Pope Pius XII appointed him . as auxiliary bishop in Sandomierz and at the same time titular bishop of Daulia . The episcopal ordination donated to him on May 19, 1946 Jan Kanty Lorek , the bishop of Sandomierz; Co- consecrators were Czesław Kaczmarek , Bishop of Kielce , and Franciszek Sonik , Auxiliary Bishop in Kielce.

Pope Pius XII appointed Franciszek Jop Apostolic Administrator of Opole. However, the state authorities prevented him from exercising his office. On December 13, 1952, he became cathedral chapter in Cracow and was then able to exercise his administrative office in Opole at the end of December 1956. On May 25, 1967, Pope Paul VI appointed him . to the auxiliary bishop in Breslau . On June 28, 1972 he became the first bishop of Pope Paul VI. newly established diocese of Opole in the ecclesiastical province of Breslau.

He found his final resting place in the crypt of the Holy Cross Cathedral in Opole.
