Maly Vysotsky ( Russian Малый Высоцкий ; Finnish Ravansaari ) is a Russian island in the Baltic Sea near Vysotsk .
The island belonged to Finland from 1918 to 1940 and from 1941 to 1944 , in between to the Karelo-Finnish SSR as part of the Soviet Union and then to the RSFSR and the Russian Federation .
From 1963 to 2013 it was leased to Finland together with the Saimaa Canal .
Because of this peculiarity, Maly Vysotsky was considered a separate DXCC area among radio amateurs , separate from Russia and Finland . On February 17, 2012, a new contract came into force, according to which the Saimaa Canal has been leased from Finland since then, but no longer the island. This also means that Maly Vysotski's special radio sport status has expired.
The narrow passage to the port of Vyborg runs between the island and Vysotsk .
