Georg Hermes (lawyer)

Georg Hermes (* 1958 in Dortmund ) is a German legal scholar .

Life

From 1976 to 1981 Georg Hermes studied law and political science at the universities of Bonn , Geneva and Freiburg im Breisgau . After his first (1981) and second (1988) state legal examinations , he received his doctorate in law in 1986 and completed his habilitation in 1997 at the University of Freiburg.

Hermes practiced as a lawyer from 1988 to 1989 . From 1989 to 1992 he was a research assistant at the Federal Constitutional Court , after which he was a fellow of the German Research Foundation until 1995 . After acting as professor at Bielefeld University in 1994 , from 1996 to 1997 at the University of Frankfurt am Main and from 1997 to 1998 at the Technical University of Dresden , since 1998 he has been a full professor for public law at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main.

Georg Hermes' research focuses on infrastructure and state organization law . He has created several expert opinions on current political issues and political actors judicially, such as Alliance 90 / The Greens in the election review procedure before the Hessian State Court against the decision of the Verification court because of the use of illegally received political donations , the CDU in Hesse state election campaign in 1999 had used .

In September 2019 he was one of about 100 constitutional law teachers who, with the open appeal for the right to vote, Downsized the Bundestag! turned to the German Bundestag .

Hermes is married and has two daughters.
