Old hammer: memorial at the cemetery

Staré Hamry (formerly Hamry and Hamrovice , German Althammer ) is a municipality in the Okres Frýdek-Místek in the Moravian-Silesian Beskids on the Šance-Řečice reservoir . The area stretches from Kahlberg to the Slovakian border, but only 600 people live here. The Grúň rises to the east .

history

First mentioned in 1636, in 1638 Count Oppersdorf founded Hammerwerke in Althammer , the first in the region. The Heinrichskirche was completed in 1856, and in 1908 the railway line to Bílá was put into operation.

In 1951 the community was reorganized. The northern district Hamrovice came to the municipality Ostravice , which in turn gave its districts Samčanka and Hutě pod Smrkem to Staré Hamry. As a result, the previously purely Silesian community became a village on both banks of the Ostrawitza River . The center of Althammer and the railway fell victim to the construction of the reservoir (1964–1969).

The memorial at the cemetery (1933) is dedicated to Maryčka Magdonová , the heroine of the ballad of the same name by the Silesian poet Petr Bezruč :

To the hammer in the cemetery, hard on the wall,

no cross, no flower, graves ripple.

Rest here who laid God's hand in cash.

The Magdonová is probably buried in the Pražmo poor cemetery .
