Bocanovice (Polish Boconowice , German Botzonowitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located three kilometers southwest of Jablunkov and belongs to the Okres Frýdek-Místek .

geography

Bocanovice extends on the left bank of the Lomná at the foot of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids in the Jablunkauer furrow. The place borders the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area. To the west rises the 981 m high Kozubová with its secondary peaks Malá Kykula (788 m) and Malá Kyčera (744 m). In the east, the European route 75 leads past Bocanovice. The Žilina – Bohumín railway runs along the western edge of the village and crosses the Lomná on a viaduct above the village . To the north is the Jablunkov sanatorium and arboretum.

Neighboring towns are Husařov, Bockov and Černé in the north, Jablunkov in the north-east, Městská Lomná in the east, Lupinska and Mosty u Jablunkova in the south, Dolní Lomná in the south-west, Novina and Kurajka in the west and Bílkov in the north-west.

history

Boczanovicze was first mentioned in writing in 1621 in a land register . There is no evidence of an alleged first mention in 1597. At the place of the place there was originally a courtyard of the ducal Teschen state judge Max Adam. After the farm became the duke's possession, four Wallachian families were settled to work the fields.

After the abolition of patrimonial Botzonowitz formed a community in the Teschen district from 1850 . In 1871 the Kaschau-Oderberger Bahn put the railway line from Teschen over the Jablunkapass into operation, for which a viaduct had to be built over the Lomná.

In 1871, with the support of the Teschen Chamber and Emperor Franz Joseph I , a school was built in Botzonowitz. Five years later the wooden building burned down. In 1877 a new brick school building was built, which today houses a Czech-Polish primary school.

After the end of the First World War, the place belonged to Czechoslovakia. Because of the large Polish population, Poland also claimed the Olsa area , and the Polish-Czechoslovak border war broke out . From 1920 the place belonged to the Český Těšín district. After the Munich Agreement , Boconowice was annexed to Poland in 1938 and became part of the German Reich the following year after the occupation of Poland. Botzonowitz belonged to the Teschen district until 1945 and returned to Czechoslovakia after the end of the war.

After the dissolution of the Okres Český Těšín, the place came to the Okres Frýdek-Místek at the beginning of 1961. At the same time it was incorporated into Jablunkov, where the place formed the district Jablunkov 3-Bocanovice. Since 1990 Bocanovice has been an independent municipality again. A strong Polish minority lives in Bocanovice, to which 36% of the population belong.
