Rudolf Mayer (medalist)

Rudolf Mayer (born June 12, 1846 in Nýdek , † June 24, 1916 in Karlsruhe ) was a German medalist .

He learned the trade of medalists from 1862 in the Archduke Albrecht's foundry in Trzynietz . He then worked in Vienna, where he studied under Otto König at the Kunstgewerbeschule on a scholarship . After completing his studies, Mayer had his own studio in Vienna from 1871. In 1874 he was appointed to the arts and crafts school in Stuttgart, and in 1886 he moved to Karlsruhe, where he taught until his retirement in 1913. In addition to his teaching post, Mayer was also active as a freelance artist.
